Get drunk drivers
off the road.
Four year-old Taylor Pirc died because an irresponsible drunken driver
drove his vehicle into her grandmother's car. Taylor Pirc is just one
of many innocents killed by drunken drivers who do not belong on the
Will County highways. Until recently, drunken drivers antics were
recorded only in a police officers memory. Sometimes the judge
believed the officer. Sometimes they didnt, especially when a
sober defendant with combed hair and a perfectly knotted tie sat piously
in the courtroom.
Equip police with
video cameras.
To date, one police car in each of the 30 Will County communities has
been equipped with a video camera as a result of funds generated in
memory of Taylor Pirc. The surveillance camera, mounted in the front
window of a patrol car, is an invaluable tool. It records events from
the time an officer first notices erratic driving and stops the offender,
to the time a field sobriety test is conducted. The video tapes provide
indisputable evidence in court and protect officers from charges of
abuse.
Raise $3,600 for
each camera.
To equip every patrol car in Will County represents a sizeable investment
with a valuable return. Each sophisticated camera system costs $3,600.
Crime Stoppers of Will County, Inc. has agreed to match each dollar
raised, up to a ceiling of $20,000. Thats a beginning. To accomplish
our goal, we need your help as volunteers at fund raising events
as generous donors. Join our effort today. Contact Detective
